Avoiding The Leadership Frenzy
Aggravated that you spend so much time fixing problems and putting out fires… expending a lot of “have to” and “need to" energy? Constantly looking for ways to shift your energy to focus on more strategic things?
I have encountered many leaders who operate in a constant state of frenzy. This "leadership frenzy" is the opposite of being a strategic leader. This leadership style focuses on creating and managing tasks and activities. The bigger the list of activities, the better. Throw in a massive excel spreadsheet with pivot tables and they are in heaven! As long as things are getting checked off, there is an assumption that great things are happening. You can usually identify these leaders by the sound of their feet practically running down the hall with their hair on fire, popping their head in meetings to pull people out or rapid fire texting the latest "urgent" item.
Any of this resonate with you? Do you work with this type of leader? Are YOU this type of leader?
To be a more strategic leader, you must shift from continuously focusing on problems and fighting fires; to proactively creating solutions. Your level of consciousness impacts your ability to see the big picture and be strategic. The higher level of consciousness and the lower level of judgement the more strategic you will become. The good news is this can be an intentional decision - you can decide!
